WRITING

Comic book writing is very different from a movie script or prose and requires an experienced skill set. One must know the format to properly utilize the storytelling techniques involved to fully embrace the true potential of the medium. We can take your idea and transform it into a finalized document that an artist can begin drawing from or take your movie script and reformat it to comic industry standards to begin production.

Comic book script writing starts at $20 a page.

CHARACTER SKETCHES

Before one can begin to illustrate a comic book, your look of the main players needs to be finalized. From street clothes to costumes- to animals, vehicles, and environments, these decisions set the stage for your story. This concept art based on your idea can be used as model sheets for other artists who may collaborate on the project in the future as well.

Character sketches starts at $50 per character.

PENCILING

The most key decision in building your project is the selection of the artist. Comic art is done in stages and the first step is drawing the pages in pencil. We will find you a penciler who will interpret your story and bring the characters to life in a style that is appropriate for the intended audience or publisher of your comic.

Penciling starts at $75 a page.

INKING

The next stage is to define the pencilers' art by adding ink. This is traditionally done my another artist who has their own personal art style. This combination of styles causes a unique look distinct from the original page with added depth, texture, and line weight.

Inking starts at $55 a page.

GREY TONES

If your budget for printing excludes the option of color, H.C.M.P. can deliver a slick product that is still cost effective. Take a look at the side by side comparisons above. The first images are the final inked art and the second images have grey tones applied. One can see how much depth is been added by the way that objects are much more clearly defined and shaded.

Grey-scaling starts at $45 a page.

FLATTING

Some colorists utilize the services of a flatter before they begin work. The flatter separates all the colors on the page as solid objects to allow them to focus on painting gradients, textures, and light sources.

Flatting starts at $15 a page.

COLORING

Coloring sets the tone of your book just as much as the script itself. Color artists, whose palette helps to define the overall feel of the project, spend countless hours painting over the penciler's final inked pages. Much of the first impressions made by consumers are dominated by how the colorist approaches the art.

Comic book coloring starts at $80 a page.

LETTERING

Professional lettering is an unrecognized subliminal art which guides the reader's eye across the page, highlighting the art in the appropriate places and sets the pace of the narrative. Take a look at what we can provide for you.

Comic book lettering starts at $15 a page.

EDITING

Comic book editors play many roles from assembling the entire creative team behind your project to coordinating their workflow. They finalize the script before it is sent to the artists to ensure the story will be interpreted properly and efficiently. This includes correcting storytelling approaches, grammar, spelling, and formatting issues.

Script editing starts at $10 a page.

PINUPS

Does your comic book need a couple extras pages highlighting the main characters? Consider adding a few pinups from our network of artists to enhance the vibrancy of your project.

Pinup pages start at $75.

INSIDE FRONT COVER DESIGN

The first page a reader sees on the left side of page one is the credits page. This page provides an opportunity to showcase style and the feel of the project itself. Art can be placed here as well as a creative use of fontography.

Comic book inside front cover design starts at $25 a page.

COMIC BOOK LOGOS

Logos make an important first impression with the intended audience of your project. More than just for your comic book cover but can be used for a variety of merchandising as well. Let us help you define your brand.

Comic book logos start at $250.

COMIC BOOK COVER PRODUCTION

COVER ART

Comic books are definitely judged by their cover as it is this element which draws the potential readers' attention and causes them take a look or make a purchase. More than just a pinup, covers incorporate multiple characters and/or detailed backgrounds. They are sometimes done by someone other than the interior artist but should complement the tone and feel of your project just as well.

Comic book covers start at $150.

COVER DESIGN

Comic book covers need some graphic design elements before they can go to print. Most importantly would be the addition of the logo and the company logo. Other items include the issue number, price, rating, and the inclusion of special bursts or banners.

Cover design starts at $25.

BACK COVER DESIGN

Some comic books and all trade paperback graphic novel collected editions have text on the back cover to entice readers to flip through the book. It usually is a short synopsis of the story found within and often includes taglines as well as pull quotes from reviews. Graphics found on back covers are bar codes, company logos, websites, and pricing.

Comic book back cover design starts at $25 a page.

PRODUCTION

The final steps of comic book production are preparing the files for print. They need to be the correct size, color mode, and file type as well as have a bleed added to them for the art to be accurately represented in the final book produced by the printer. Books that have a spine and back cover design require an assembled image with the front cover as seen in the images above.

Pre-press services start at $10 a page.
